kerala style kadala curry

 

Ingredients

  

 

Karutha kadala/black chick peas- 1 ½ cups

 

Onion- 3-4 big 

    

                              


 

Garlic paste- ½ teaspoon

 

Curry leaves-2 sprigs

 

Grated coconut-2 cups

 

Fennel seeds- 1 teaspoon

 

Cinnamon- a small piece

 

Cloves- 2-3

 

Chilly powder- 1tbspn

 

Coriander powder- ¾ tbspn

 

Turmeric powder- 1/4tspn

 

Method

  

 

Karutha kadala should be soaked overnight or for atleast 4 hours.

 

Wash and drain it

 

In a pressure cooker ,add salt and required quantity of water with kadala and cook it .

 

Dry roast grated coconut till it becomes brown in color

 

Grind cinnamon,cloves and fennel seeds to a fine powder like texture.

 

Grind the roasted coconut to a smooth paste.

 

Heat coconut oil in a kadai saute onion,garlic and curry leaves .

 

After that add all the masala powders and mix it nicely.

 

Then add ground coconut paste, salt and kadala,mix everything nicely.

 

Cook in low fame for a few minutes.serve it with chapathi, rice, or with puttu.
